As COVID rears its ugly head again, one thing that has not changed through this pandemic is the daily joy we get from our Pets. Mother Nature’s surprise dose of some beautiful Oregon sunshine makes it the purr-fect time to show off your Fur Babies! Here now are some great ways to bring out some memorable PET-ography.
1. Don’t go against your pet’s personality.
You know your fur baby best, and just like any two or 3-year-old, working with their personality, not against it, will make the whole process much more manageable.
If your dog is always on the go, it is best not to try and get him to sit still.
If your cat doesn’t usually get held, chances are someone will end up bleeding if you try to have her for a photo. Plan to work with your pet’s personality, and your result will be better.
2. Communicate info about your pet to the photographer
Photographers will do their best to work with you and your pet, but only helping you give them will make things smoother.
For sample, if your pet always comes to the sound of their name, it is probably not good for the photographer to continually call their name and have them walk out of frame.

If you have a dog that gets aggressive if someone gets too close, let the photographer know so that they can keep their distance.
Anything that will help is essential to communicate to your photographer.
3. Photography is all about light, so use it to your advantage. For example, if you’re outside on a bright sunny day, place your dog in the shade facing the sun. You’ll be able to get nice catchlights in his eyes if he’s in the shade and you face him towards the sun.
4. Keep an open mind and reasonable expectations.
Just like working with toddlers, pets will have good and bad days in front of the camera, and that’s ok. The important part is that they are there, not perfect.
It can be a true dust land, you know what I am referring to, that table in front of the couch, or end table. A piece that is disguised nicely by those old magazines, or table books that have not seen the pages turned back in years. What’s really missing is you? Not physically but photographically. You know where the moments really counted like at a Wedding, Senior Pictures, or any Event.

Albums may be a little obsolete today, but at a recent Wedding Showcase, every couple or participant gravitated to the colorful books we had on display. There are quite a few advantages of getting an album. You can use it for all occasions. They can be custom-made to fit you and your style. Weddings are soaring in popularity, and now thanks to Drones, the sky is the limit when it comes to your video. Drones are triggering a wholly unique perspective, and at Photos By Orion we are proud to have an FAA licensed photographer at the helm to capture that birds-eye view. This new technology, like anything, comes with its advantages and disadvantages.

So, what is the typical cost for this video adventure? At Photos By Orion, we charge $200 Dollars a flight. We are one of the region’s only studios offering both Photography and Videography and are always equipped to fly. From the Coast, Willamette Valley, and the Mountains a Drone can be that signature touch that will forever have you feeling sky-high about your vows.
It is your wedding and video, so you would think you could put whatever music you want to on your video. So you would think, but it is possible but not very practical, and here is why?
You must contact the Record Company, Agent, or even the Artist to say Yes or No.
You will need a Lawyer to sift through the 22-45 small print pages that our long and detailed.
This is your responsibility and not of the Videographer.
An example of this process says it is a song with 2 Artists on it. You not only need to contact the 2 Artists but Writers, Producers and find the right record company. You must have all consent to the license of the song. If you cannot locate someone, you do have the option of obtaining a Copyright Lawyer, but again there is no guarantee a resolution will fit your deadline, or you will get the result you are looking for
So how can you get around this? At Photos By Orion, we pay a monthly fee for the service called Triple Scoop. They are a music licensing group that houses thousands of songs and instrumentals for your wedding video. The choices are unlimited, and in fact, you can pick these selections by occasion, genre, mood, and even atmosphere.
We find the options really help with the editing and production value. But, in the end, you want something to listen to on your video that does not feel like a broken record but your own original that will last a lifetime.

No worries! At Photos By Orion, we have you covered. We tell stories with our photography and videography, but after the party, that is when we go to work to create a music video that you can play and cherish for years to come. How do we do this?
Choosing music for your video starts for us when we first meet you, as it should for you. Ask yourself what is your favorite music? Bands, Genre, Vocals, or Instruments what is it that you find yourself singing or humming too.
Do you have a favorite song? You hear it all the time this is our song. Is it your favorite or your spouse’s favorite? You want it to be the song that truly identifies you as a couple and your love for each other.
We tune into your entire day, and the music that rings out during the reception. While you are dancing the day or night away we are looking to see what are the songs that light up you and your room. Remember this video is yours, but you want others to enjoy it as you look back for years to come this beautiful chapter in your life.
What if you cannot come together on that song or music? We use a musical data base that we pay monthly for called Triple Scoop that has thousands of licensed songs and instrumentals. This is where our musical memory kicks into action. We pick a song that frankly speaks to the couple from that first hello to that thank you after your wedding.
We go one step further in this creation process. It is your video, so we want it to be perfect, and that is why it is important to bring you in to hear the selection and get your thoughts on the song choice. We can do that with our state-of-the-art editing technology, which even allows us to use part of one song and another.
Finally, what about popular music? You know, can you use Taylor Swift, Jonas Brothers, Michael Jackson, or even Barry White for those Golden Agers? As a vendor, I visit venues (or places to host an event) regularly for all different types of events, and just like any other industry, some venues go above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience. I can, unfortunately, say there are several places out there that treat their couple well, but not other wedding vendors. I have worked with these places, and it is not all that fun! BUT some places are an absolute pleasure to work with. So, I have compiled a list of 5 places in Salem/Keizer that are good not only for the couples to work with but also treat other wedding and event vendors well, making them some of my favorite places to work with! These are in no order, and all are places worth checking out if you are looking to hold a wedding or event in Salem/Keizer.
Log House Garden at Willow Lake
Log House Garden in Keizer is one of those not-so-hidden gems in the city. Run by the Blake’s, the grounds are immaculately kept, they have an orchard that makes for amazing photos, and if you are respectful of the property, they grant you full access for the time of your event. Lanora has been in the wedding and event business for many years and is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to making your event beautiful and successful. As a vendor, Lanora always treats you with respect and thinks about not only what is good for her, but what is good for you too. This is a wonderful venue that I absolutely love returning to again and again!
Deepwood Estate
This venue is well known in the area, and for good reason. The grounds are kept by dedicated volunteers who do an amazing job. The society that keeps the house and gives tours are focused on preservation and keeping this piece of history for generations to come, and the event staff is so delightful to work with! Besides its popularity (and subsequent days it is off-limits to those not part of the event) this place is a photographer’s dream and is just as dreamy to work with as to photograph. Their rules are strict, but for incredibly good reason. They do work with you, both as an event planner and as a vendor, to give you as much free reign as possible while maintaining the integrity of the site. Very much a place I love working with over and over.
Willamette Heritage Center
Third on the list is the Willamette Heritage Center, also known as Mission Mill. Staff is extremely helpful but unobtrusive, and they give lots of leeway. A perfect spot for vignettes and getting great photos.
Salem Convention Center
Amazing staff that always take care of you, and your vendors. They make sure vendors get lunch/dinner, and have a place set for your vendors to take break. It has gorgeous lighting, large, great for big events. They also make you so feel special. They may have 5 events going on at the same time, but you would never know it with the care and attention you receive.
Keizer Civic Center
This historic and beautiful venue is hidden in the middle of the city. It features incredible garden spots that you can use as well. The staff is truly kind and helpful, and fun to work with. They are very responsive and versatile with their large rooms and smaller rooms that are perfect for breakout areas during an event.
There are 2 types of wedding videos typically produced today, the full wedding video and the highlight wedding video. In order for couples to choose which is right for them, they need to understand what the differences between the two videos are, and that is what Karin and Kathryn discuss in today’s video.
